Program Summary:
This organization is working to achieve marriage equality for same-sex couples across the United States. Freedom to Marry brings together non-gay and gay state and national partners and enhances their individual and collective capacity. It does so via four principal roles: (1) Strategy and Support Center for local, state and national partners; (2) Catalyst that drives and influences the national debate on marriage equality; (3) Partnership and Alliance-Builder enlisting local, regional, and national non-gay allies and non-gay public support; and (4) Regrantor and Engine of Funding to augment local, state and national freedom to marry efforts, while advising funders and assisting local organizations' stimulation of their own funding.
While no end date has been set, this effort is designed to achieve its goal and go out of business.
Foundations provide almost ¾ of this group's funding. It does re-granting as one service for national and state partners, with grants ranging from $500 to $100,000 to support capacity building and key actions. Grants are primarily by invitation only; unsolicited proposals are generally not accepted. Additionally it provides coaching and other forms of assistance enabling groups to strengthen their work on behalf of marriage equality.
